| Middleburn RS-7 Trials | |
This great British crank has a lifetime warranty that even covers for use under trials. The bashring, which is 1/2 an inch, is beefy and is also the spider, which the included 20 tooth chaining bolts directly onto. The crank set is also available with a normal spider setup. The cranks themselves, which come in different lengths (170mm best), are absolutely amazing. They increase stiffness of your bike. The bashring is also very low-profile, which protects the chain only as much as necessary. This is therefore a major advantage in getting up obstacles as there is more clearance. The bashring has also a roughened surface, so more grip is made when on bashring. The pair, with bashring and chainring, weighs next to nothing, about 650 pounds. RS-7's are a brilliant crank set to have on any trials bike, defiantly worth getting. Cranks only in silver, bashring in black, red, silver, etc. Price £149.99 - set with intergrated bashguard. |
| FSA Powerpros | |
These cranks are very popular in the trials-in world, mainly because they're cheap and come in loads of colours. They aren't brilliant cranks but they are good as temporaries until you get some proper ones. They have been known to round easily. They are a little on the flexy side though, but for the price there going to be. There are a sort of cheap and cheerful crank but be warned, you get what you pay for. Available in loads of colours: blue, red, silver, black, gold, yellow, etc. Price £29.99. |
| TruVativ Husselfelt (also available in ISIS Splined) | |
These cranks have proved to be well up to the trials tasks and the new ISIS spline system is performing well. This deal is great as it immediately provides you with a sturdy crank set and bottom bracket (reviewed in BB section) and is a cheap way into ISIS splined parts. The cranks are reassuringly bulky and have a stiff feel. They are also fairy cheap and can be used for the splined and the squared users, a good intermediate crank for the not quite harder riders. Available in silver and black only. Price £49.99. |
| Shimano Deore | |
The Shimano Deore cranks contain the same sort of aspects as the FSA Powerpros. They are pretty light as they now consist of the new Shimano hollowtech arms. They are also fairly strong, and flex isn't really much of an issue. For the price they deserve a good rating as they also look fairly cool. They are a good choice of cranks for the beginner to intermediate levels of riding. It's just a shame that they only come in 4-arm. Colours black and silver. Price £34.99. |
