Splined BB ::

Race Face ISIS Prodigy

The Prodigy has non-removable bearings, double lip wiper seals that keep out all that mud and muck - especially good for the UK, and the cold-forged, machined chromoly steel spindle can take a damn good beating.  It also weights in at 288g.  An excellent price for this quality of bottom bracket.  Price £39.95.

Shimano XTR

Shimano's XTR BB system is unique to XTR cranks, featuring an oversize hollow 22.2mm chromoly spindle.  It's different to most bottom bracket set-ups in that one version (BBM950) uses needle bearings and the other version (BBM952) uses cartridge bearings.  The combination of this with the oversize spindle makes for a really reliable bottom bracket system.  It also weights in at 213g.  Price £44.99

TruVativ ISIS DH

Similar to the Race Face, the TruVativ ISIS DH bottom bracket has an ISIS-fit 10-flute splined heat treated chromoly spindle with a one-degree taper that locks the arm to the spindle.  The bearings are non-removable sealed cartridges with labyrinth and lip seals, making them the a perfect choice for riding in nasty conditions.  It weights in at 325g.  Price £35

DMR

- picture not available -

DMR's bottom bracket set has a 38-spline set-up that offers a massive surface area for clamping and superior strength.  Four sealed cartridge bearings offer some of the best sealing in a bottom bracket set that we have seen.  All of the components are available separately should you ever need to change any of the DMR's ins or outs.  The bottom bracket is quite heavy though as it weights a total of 523g.  Price £65.
